PSHE
PSHE is high on our list of priorities here at scremerston first school; we recognise its vital role in preparing our children for life in the wider world where their ability to form positive relationships, understand what is right and what is wrong and how to go about putting things right will be crucial to their happiness and wellbeing. we aim to develop our children's confidence , self-esteem and understanding of their right to respect. we encourage our children to treat others in the way that they like to be treeated, with tolerance, respect and dignity, through our teaching in PSHE.
We use the Commando Joe's resources to boost our PSHE offer through planned missions which encourage the children to work collaboratively on a variety of problem solving challenges. The programme builds skills of resilience, co-operation, respect and self-esteem. Every week a child from Oak class and a child from Ash class are awarded Commando of the Week certificates for their notable contribution to that week's mission.
In the Autumn term we have enjoyed workshops offered by NDAS (Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service),.
KS1 - Kind hands
Kind voices
Gender stereotypes
KS2 - Healthy relationships
Consent
Relationships
These workshops are a great opportunity for the children to see that the messages we teach in PSHE are embraced by the wider community.
We have a Pol-Ed account - this was set up by West Yorkshire Police to support PSHE work in schools and includes lots of great resources to help in the delivery of this curriculum area.
During December we will be looking at the advent calendar of character building activities.
