Religious Education

At Scremerston First School we follow the Northumberland Agreed Syllabus. We follow a 2 year rolling programme for KS1 and KS2 because of our mixed age classes. In KS1 we study aspects of Christianity, Judaism and Islam and in KS2 we extend our understanding of these religions and also begin to study aspects of Hinduism. Part of the programme also looks at more general themes that apply yo all religions eg sacred places, celebrations of significant events like births.

The curriculum for the Early Years is very much based on their experiences and builds understanding of themes in Christianity through stories and visits.

Although we are not a Voluntary Aided church school we take the opportunity to visit our local church to celebrate Christmas, Easter and the end of the summer  term, as it is a significant building in our local environment.Photo

Through visiting the church the children begin to develop a sense of place and the tradition of worship there.

We are lucky to have the Open the Book team visit school every month to share Bible stories with the children, through drama. The children enjoy joining in with their assemblies and they can retell the stories they have been told.

(Not only do the Open the Book team share stories with the children they also extend their Christian ministry to the staff with cakes at the end of every half term!Vanilla Traybake These are hugely appreciated!)
